“We say goodbye to Prof. Mariana Rufino with deep sadness. With her outstanding commitment and scientific expertise, she provided important impetus for the field of grassland systems at our university,” says Dean Prof. Ingrid Kögel-Knabner. “Our deepest sympathy goes out to her family and loved ones, her team, her students, and all those who were close to her.”
Prof. Rufino studied agricultural sciences in Argentina and then spent many years conducting research in Wageningen, Netherlands, as well as in Kenya and the United Kingdom. Her work focused on livestock systems in Latin America, Europe, and Africa and their impact on the environment. She joined the TUM School of Life Sciences in Weihenstephan in 2023 from Lancaster University. She was also involved in international organizations, including the FAO.
Her work in research and teaching, as well as her commitment to the academic community, will remain in our memories. The obituary published by the Technical University of Munich in the newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung can be found here.
