Cell Analysis Unit
The Cell Analysis Unit (CAnU) at the TUM School of Life Sciences brings together expertise in flow cytometric analysis and sorting as well as cell population and single-cell-based next-generation sequencing.
Goals and Strategy
Access to modern equipment and methods
- Cell analysis using flow cytometry is organized within TUM's cross-campus cytometry network (CyTUM). This enables unbureaucratic access to state-of-the-art equipment.
- In the field of NGS, the unit specializes in the preparation of libraries for DNA sequencing and bulk RNA sequencing, with a particular focus on single-cell transcriptomics using leading platforms such as 10x Genomics Chromium and BD Rhapsody.
Scientific and technical consulting
- The unit offers services ranging from project planning to data analysis. All aspects of flow cytometry and sequencing are supported and coordinated. We work closely with users to find customized and flexible solutions in all phases of the project.
Processing of challenging samples
- CAnU has laboratory areas with biological and genetic safety levels S1 and S2 (S3 from 2026), so that even biologically regulated source material can be analyzed.
- The unit offers a customized approach for samples that are challenging in terms of quality and quantity.
Teaching
- Users are thoroughly trained in the respective platforms and methods to ensure that knowledge is passed on to employees, doctoral candidates, and students.
